FEDERER WINS! And that is his 15th hoisted trophy of his career.
Thus, he is now celebrating his own Grand Slam victory after defeating the American Andy Roddick with a score of 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14. And breaking the record of major titles he shared with Pete Sampras.
Federer served a career-high 50 aces in the said championship game against the cunning American who had won his semi-final game against Andy Murray 6-4 4-6 7-6(7) 7-6(5) on Day 11 of the Wimbledon 2009 Series.
The match finally ended after 4 hours, 16 minutes when Federer broke for the first time all day, with Roddick missing on a forehand.
Federer jumped high in celebration, punched the air and whacked the net with his racket. Roddick tossed his racket to the side and the two men shared a hug at the net. Federer kissed the trophy and brought it close to his chest.
Watching from the front row of the Royal Box was Sampras, a seven-time Wimbledon champion who flew in from California, his first appearance at the All England Club since playing this tournament for the last time in 2002. Also on hand were Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver.
SERENA WILLIAMS VICTORIOUS!In a score of 7-6(3) 6-2 and that is in straight sets in 87 minutes. A superb performance in the Wimbledon 2009 Women's Finals.
The job was accomplished in typical powerful style, with Venus so worn down that her own game collapsed spectacularly from 2-2 in the second set. This was Serena’s third Wimbledon title and 11th Grand Slam and was ample amends for her loss to her big sister 12 months ago.
With Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Maria Bueno and Virginia Wade, watching from the Royal Box they are all amazed with the performance of the Williamses on the Wimbledon 2009 Day 12.
YOU CAN WATCH THE REPLAY in some sites that can provide you one. But, I am still not sure if StarSports, ESPN, SkySports can make this available. Hopefully highlights of the said games may be seen in the wimbledon 2009.org.
