"The Filipino Flash" and "Hawaiian Punch" goes to War
On March 22, a war zone is again laid as "the Filipino Flash" Nonito Donaire and former light fly weight "Hawaiian Punch" Brian Viloria will conquer the Araneta Coliseum in their double-header championship dubbed as the Fast and the Furious (but I think the title must be "The Flash and the Furious").
Nonito Donaire will defend his IBF/IBO flyweight title against the cunning and undefeated "Cobra" Raul Martinez (24-0 14 KO's).
While Brian Viloria will fight against IBF light flyweight champion Ulises "Archie" Solis (28-1 20 KO's), whom has so far defeated all Filipino challengers to the title.

The Late Larry H. Miller Was Honored
Lawrence Horne "Larry H." Miller (April 26, 1944 – February 20, 2009) was a Utah businessman and philanthropist. Well known as the owner of the NBA's Utah Jazz, Miller was also the owner of an automotive dealership, and a variety of other business ventures including Prestige Financial, Jordan Commons, Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres, KJZZ-TV, Miller Motorsports Park, the FANZZ chain of sports apparel stores, and the EnergySolutions Arena (formerly the "Delta Center").
On February 20, 2009, surrounded by family at his home, Miller died of complications from type II diabetes.
NBA Commissioner David Stern issued a statement on the passing of Mr. Miller: “It is with great sadness that I offer condolences to Gail and the Miller family on behalf of the entire NBA family. Larry's legacy extends beyond the NBA as he touched many lives in the Salt Lake City region through his business ventures and charitable endeavors. The NBA lost a great leader, colleague and friend today. We will miss him.”
On February 21, 2009, the Utah Jazz played in Miller's name against the New Orleans Hornets, honoring him with a special ceremony and giving their condolences, and the game ball, to his wife.

Spurs wins against Pistons 83-79
Tim Duncan was heavily defended by the Piston's Baller from Detroit. Tim Duncan produced 18 points and 18 boards in Spurs' victory over the Piston 83-79.
"It says a lot about Tim Duncan that we can say he didn't have a great game when he had 18 and 18," Curry said. "People aren't going to fully appreciate what a great player they're watching until he retires. He just goes out there and does that game after game."
Duncan had seven points and eight rebounds in the fourth quarter, helping the Spurs break a three-game road losing streak.
"Tim is the base to everything we do," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "He rebounded and he got some buckets, and that's what we needed." Tony Parker added 19 points and 11 assists for the Spurs, who are 4-3 on an eight-game road trip.
The Pistons dropped to 2-10 at home in the past six weeks, and face a road trip that includes games at Boston, Cleveland, New Orleans and Orlando. "We lost again," point guard Rodney Stuckey said. "I don't know. I really can't explain anything anymore. We just keep losing, and now we've got some great teams to play."
Allen Iverson led all scorers with 31 points, and Antonio McDyess added 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Bruce Bowen grabbed the rebound, and was fouled while frantically trying to call a timeout. Despite coming into the game shooting 47 percent from the line, he hit both shots to make it 82-79 with 9.7 seconds left.“Bruce is a real pro,” Popovich said. “He doesn’t start for us, but he does whatever we ask. He guarded Rip (Hamilton) for a while, he guarded Allen for a while, and he did a great job.”
Still Gregg Popovich told the reporters that Manu Ginobili will be missing another 2-3 weeks due to a right ankle injury.

PacMan vs Hitman: Speed vs Power Again
Indeed a clash between power and speed will again determine who will emerge as winner in the upcoming superfight between Fililipno boxer Manny "the PacMan" Pacquiao and England's Ricky "the Hitman" Hatton on May 2, 2009 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada
The forthcoming fight between popular boxers Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines and Ricky Hatton of England will be another show of power, speed, and heart.
Freddie Roach, now the world’s most popular trainer and owner of the famous Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California is so confident that his ward will finish Hatton in the later rounds. Asked why he thinks Manny will beat Hatton, Roach said ‘speed kills’, referring to Pacquiao’s trade mark fighting style.
Speed is indeed a potent weapon of Pacquiao and from all indications, Roach is determined to fine tune Pacquiao’s natural speedy boxing style. As a season boxing coach and trainer, Roach is expected to supplement Pacquiao’s hand and foot works with other techniques that will further enhance his speed power.
‘Speed kills’ as Roach appropriately coined for Pacquiao’s speedy fighting style, could be Roach major training direction that is specifically aimed at neutralizing Hatton’s bullfight boxing style. This simply means that changes and improvements on Pacquiao’s natural skills will be concentrated on the effective usage of his speed particularly his hands and footwork.
In all probability, Hatton will ONLY capitalize on his punching power and will surely put to test his original fighting style with Pacquiao to see if it works. Hatton, the powerful and rugged brawler from Manchester will definitely be in great condition as he will fight in his comfortable weight range. He has been most effective in the 140 pound limit where he remained unbeaten and Pacquiao has never fought in the 140 pounds level. But he does not have the skill of Manny Pacquiao and if he is not careful with his defenses he will definitely hit the canvas and Pacquiao will finish him with his rapid and powerful punches.

Tyson Chandler to Thunder HALTED
Tyson Chandler was meant to be traded to the Oklahoma City to become a Thunder, but management of the OKC Thunder rescinded their trade giving back Tyson to the Hornets.
"We welcome Tyson back with open arms," Hornets general manager Jeff Bower said in a statement. "We went into this trade to garner more frontcourt depth to add to our team as we continue our push towards the playoffs. We expect Tyson and the rest of our big guys to step up to the challenge."
No specific reason was given as to why Chandler didn't pass the physical, but he missed the Hornets' last 12 games before the All-Star break because of a sprained left ankle.
"We were pleased to add Tyson to the Thunder roster," general manager Sam Presti said. "During the course of the physical examination and outside consultations some questions arose that gave us cause for concern. We felt that this course of action was the best for our organization."
Chandler is due to make about $12 million next season.
All-Star forward David West called it a business decision instead of a basketball decision, and said it "leaves a big question mark in the middle" for New Orleans.
Chandler had been a big part of the turnaround that landed the Hornets the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference last year, when they pushed San Antonio to Game 7 in the conference semifinals. He averaged a double-double with 11.8 points and 11.8 rebounds and had more than 100 alley-oop dunks off of lobs from All-Star point guard Chris Paul.

Tyson Chandler to Thunder
Chandler was dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday in a trade that brings veterans Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox to the Hornets and could give New Orleans some cap room next season heading into the first year of Paul’s new four-year, $68 million contract.
New Orleans also got the rights to DeVon Hardin, a second-round pick out of California in last year’s draft who never signed with Oklahoma City.
“We were able to get great depth, leadership and experience by making this trade,” Hornets general manager Jeff Bower said in a statement. “We felt we needed to increase our overall play of the front line and Chris Wilcox is a young, athletic player that can score and fit well in our system. We will be able to take advantage of his athleticism and style of play.
“Joe provides us with much needed depth and someone who can be an integral part of our rotation.”
Chandler’s numbers had dropped off even before he missed the Hornets’ last 12 games with a sprained left ankle. He’s averaging 8.8 points and 8.3 rebounds this season, after going for 11.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per game last season.
Wilcox’s averages of 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds fell off, along with his playing time, since the Thunder signed restricted free agent Nenad Krstic on Dec. 30. He had a season-high 23 points on New Year’s Eve, before Krstic got into the rotation, but saw his time on the court fall off to practically nothing within a week. He played in only one of Oklahoma City’s last five games.
Smith, the No. 1 pick in the 1995 draft, has been fighting through injury issues of his own. A balky left knee kept him out of the Thunder’s lineup for nearly a month before he returned to play in four of the last five games before the All-Star break. He has averaged 6.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in 36 games.
The Hornets and Thunder were to play Tuesday night in Oklahoma City.
“We are excited to add a young, defensive-minded big man that we feel can help us now and in the future,” Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement. “Tyson has ties to the Oklahoma City community and we are excited to have him with us as we continue to build our organization.”
The Power of the KryptoNATE
The New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in an overtime (112-107).
Nate Robinson showed off his "power" of being the only stone that can defeat a hero (Superman), with his 32 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime winning effort against a considerable NBA dominant powerhouse team the San Antonio Spurs.
Tim Duncan of the Spurs scored 26 points and 15 rebounds. But fellow All Star Tony Parker only shot a 5-for-20 and finished with 14 points for the Spurs. Spurs were without Manu Ginobili who was back in San Antonio getting further test on his sore right ankle.
In a game that was close throughout, neither team led by more than three in the fourth quarter. The Spurs had a chance to win it, but Duncan missed a bank shot just before time expired.
Robinson then snapped a 104-all tie with a jumper with 2:37 remaining, then sped downcourt to make a layup over Duncan for a 108-104 lead with 1:55 left. Al Harrington’s drive gave New York a six-point lead 24 seconds later.
It was Robinson’s third straight game leading the Knicks in scoring, with 30 or more points in all of them. He’s still best known for his two slam dunk titles, the latter won Saturday when he donned a green uniform and called himself Krypto-Nate to knock off Howard, who wore a Superman cape for the second straight year.
Robinson will be a restricted free agent this summer, making this a perfect time to show he’s more than just a showman.
The Knicks' win snapped a six-game losing streak. Chrsi Duhon and Wilson Chandler contributed 17 points each. Knicks still down the standing in the East with 22-31 Win Loss card.
